Collected by the Inagaki family, the Toba Daimyō from the mid-Edo period to the Meiji Restoration, as materials for military studies. There are about 350 illustrations, but there is no uniformity because only illustrations of castles, illustrations including castle towns, and old battlefield illustrations are mixed.

Tokugawa Ieyasu returned to Sunpu In 1606, where he was a hostage of Imagawa as a childhood. He gave his son, Tokugawa Hidetada , a shogunate job because he was retired , and became a great mogul. Then he ordered a western daimyō to convert the castle, which had been renovated last year, into a contoured castle with a double moat and two Kuruwas surrounding the Honmaru.
It is the "Masu-shape gate" at the entrance of Ninomaru. restored faithfully in 1996.
”Tōkai-Dōchū-Hizakurige" is a comical reading of the Edo era, depicting the events of the journey of the main characters Yajirobei and Kitahachi, commonly known as ”Yaji-kita". At that time, it was very popular with the people and became a bestseller, and is still handed down today. It is said that the creator, Juppenshaikku, was born here in Sunpu, and a statue of "Yaji-Kita" was built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the book.
