The family crest was originally created from the pattern that the emperor and the royal family put on the kimono, and the pattern was made into a fixed pattern, and the one attached to his own oxcart is said to be the beginning of the family crest. The warlords drew large crests on the flag-fingers, used to distinguish enemy views on the battlefield, and used by the generals to determine which warlords were active and how much.

Nagashige received the order of the Tokugawa Shogunate from 1629 After renovation, completed the modern castle with Ninomaru and Sannomaru. It is said to be this order to built the castle in Ōshu has implications of checking strong Daimyō, as Mr. Uesugi and Mr. Date around in very important military location. It is a rare stone wall castle in the Tōhoku region, and is one of the three famous castles in Tōhoku along with Morioka Castle and Aizuwakamatsu Castle.
Restored wooden triple towers,double turrets and front gate(main entrance),based on pictures from the Edo period.   
Heavy damaged by the East Japan Earthquake in 2011, was restored in 2015.
The moat and walls around this castle are very well preserved and worth a visit definitely.
