Inuyama Castle is a hilltop style castle built on a cliff about 40 m high on the left bank of the Kiso River, and is designated as a national treasure along with Himeji Castle, Matsumoto Castle, Hikone Castle and Matsue Castle. Oda Nobuyasu, who Oda Nobunaga's uncle, was the first to build it in 1537. It is said that Naruse Masanari, who later became the castle's owner, rebuilt around 1620. After that, Naruse Clan remained a castle owner until the Meiji era, but was abolished. The castle was owned by Aichi prefecture, and buildings other than the main keep were demolished in 1872. In the aftermath of the 1891 earthquake, Aichi Prefecture handed over the castle to Naruse family, the former lord of the castle, on condition that he paid for the repairs. So it was the only privately owned castle in the whole country until 2004.
The main keep is located at the highest point of the cliff near the Kiso River, from which the kuruwa is connected stepwise to a sloping land on the south. The main keep is three-levels/ six-floors complex type with Yagura attached to the southeast corner on the third floor,, height 24 Meters (of which the height of the stone wall is 5 m). A typical example of an early Bōrō-type tower, mounted on a two-layer Yagura. Although it is simpler than Nagoya Castle and Ōsaka Castle, It has a good taste that has passed through history and much interesting.

Inuyama festival Haritsuna Shrine festival, which has a history of about 400 years, is held on the first Saturday of April. This festival is designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property.
Thirteen parade floats, designated as a tangible folk cultural property in Aichi Prefecture, will roll out to the castle town and show a karakuri doll according to the flute and drum.
In the evening, as many as 365 lanterns are lit on each floats. As you walk through the cherry blossom-lined castle town in full bloom, it looks like a gorgeous, Ukiyo-e picture.
